Hymns
Roger Bergs was
very generous in arranging the music for our
wedding. No new compositions, but he reworked the
hymns we sang so that the violins could play along.
As for leading our guests from the Piano, well, I
did not envy Roger having to get 100 or so people
to sing hymns together in unison particularly when
many had never before stepped into a
church!
We selected the
popular hymn "As the deer" because it was the hymn
that Midori sang the most while she was at Knox. We
chose "This is my father's world" because we wanted
to emphasize that we were together in God's world,
even in Matsumoto Valley. Roger had also recently
arranged the hymn for the junior choir at Knox and
I knew he would do a good arrangement for the
violins as well!

As the
Deer
As the deer
panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee.
You alone are my heart's desire,
And I long to worship Thee.
You alone are
my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee.
You're my friend
and You are my brother
Even though You are a King.
I love you more than any other,
So much more than anything.
You alone are
my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee.
I want you more
than gold or silver,
Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye.
You alone are
my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart's desire,
And I long to worship Thee.

This is my
Father's World
This is my
Father's world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my
Father's world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, Of skies and seas-
His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my
Father's world,
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white
Declare their Maker's praise.
This is my
Father's world:
He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass,
He speaks to me everywhere.
This is my
Father's world,
O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong
God is the ruler yet.
This is my
Father's world:
The battle is not done;
Jesus who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and heav'n be one.
