This is a common sight in Bali, and not often featured in Bali tourism pamphlets. It was a big surprise to me to see a woman take a whole tray of garbage and dump it right across the street. Now I can imagine people dumping junk somwhere far away somewhere else, but dumping it just across the road from one's home had me puzzled. (This also reminded me of China town in Toronto). In any case, seeing the environment around Tulamben made both Midori and I long for the cleansed atmosphere of the Four Season's Resort. (A fellow tourist's comments "Bali is sooo spiritual... all those temples..." come to mind each time I see this photo).
