Here's what Bali looks like in geography class:
We stayed in three places: Jimbaran, Tulamben, and Sayan. Jimbaran Bay is in the south tip of Bali island, near the airport and capital city Dempasar. From our villa we had the opportunity to go from there to a number of towns and villages in the area including Kuta (over-run with tourists) and Ubud. The west coast has white sands and is a long beach. Tulamben is on the North side of the Island, and is a small village serving the diving resorts. It takes a long drive up the coast to get there from Jimbaran, not because the distance is far but because the roads are not in the best condition, and you get to pass through many small villages along the way. The north coast is all volcanic rock from Mt. Agung, a volcano. The soil does not appear to be very arable, and it has a very dry climate. Sayan is in the interior, a little bit west of the monkey forest and close to Ubud. This area is all rice paddies and palm tree jungle, and is very verdant. |
